Jeremy Dyson, Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith formed the dark comedy quartet The League of Gentlemen in 1995. Following a successful Radio series the TV series was first aired on BBC Two in 1999 and continued until 2002. A movie version was released in 2005. The series garnered considerable critical acclaim, winning a BAFTA award, a Royal Television Society award and the Golden Rose of Montreux. In 2003 The League were listed in The Observer as among the 50 funniest acts in British Comedy History.
