Toria Garbutt

Toria Garbutt is a spoken word artist, poet and educator from Knottingley – a former mining town in West Yorkshire.

Toria tours regularly with Dr John Cooper Clarke, and at venues across the UK with her solo show 'Another Time in Space'. She frequently guests and performs poetry on BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Radio 4. Her book 'Another Time in Space' was published by Wrecking Ball Press, December 2022.

Toria tours regularly with Dr John Cooper Clarke and at venues across the UK with her solo show Another Time in Space, the book of which is being published by Wrecking Ball Press, December 2022.

Her début album Hot Plastic Moon was a collection of confessional, observational and character based poetry, with a punk heritage, a staccato heartbeat and showcased her unique flair for storytelling. Her début poetry collection The Universe and Me, was also published by Wrecking Ball Press.

Toria regularly appears on BBC Radio as a guest poet, including appearances on the Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show, BBC Radio 4's Pick of the Week and the Chris Hawkins Early Breakfast Show as part of National Poetry Day.

Toria’s words have also been featured in Not Too Tame’s Northern Souls show at the Edinburgh Fringe festival and in The Guardian for their feature on The Rise and Rise of the New Poets. In September 2021, she featured on the front cover and centre fold of The Big Issue North. Toria delivers spoken word workshops to a variety of community groups, schools and prisons. She is passionate about using poetry as a vehicle for self-expression and connection.
